
Alexandra Burstow
Soprano
Originally from Poole, Alexandra has extensive choral singing experience, having begun singing as a chorister and then Choral Scholar at St Stephens Church, Bournemouth under Ian Harrison. She started formal singing lessons with Joy Atkinson in 2015 and later became a Choral Scholar at Beaulieu Abbey under George Richford.
Alexandra Burstow is currently studying Vocal and Operatic Studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of Maureen Brathwaite. She is a Choral Scholar at St Chad’s Cathedral in Birmingham, and also sings with The Birmingham Oratory Choir and deputises at Coventry Cathedral and St Phillip’s Cathedral, Birmingham. She is also a member of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Chamber Choir, directed by Julian Wilkins. With the Chamber Choir she has performed as a soloist in repertoire including Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Lalande’s Cantate Domino, as well as taking part in a recording of Flower Songs in June 2024. Alexandra is an ExCathedra Student Scholar for 2024-2025 and enjoys singing with the choir under the expert leadership of Jeffrey Skidmore OBE. Highlights have included: Handel’s Messiah at Symphony Hall, Birmingham; Christmas Music by Candlelight series; Rachmaninoff Vespers in Hereford Cathedral, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and Sherborne Abbey; Bruckner Mass in E minor and Motets; Palestrina Missa Sine Nomine; Allegri Miserere with CBSO Wind and Brass; and, a BBC Radio 3 broadcast in October 2024.
She has enjoyed performing alongside: Bournemouth Male Voice Choir, as a soprano soloist in Vivaldi's Gloria; Bournemouth Sinfonietta as a soprano soloist in Monteverdi's Vespers; and Wimborne Choral Society. Additionally she has given solo recitals at Romsey Abbey, Beaulieu Abbey, Christchurch Priory, St Peter’s Bournemouth, St Peter’s Church Wolverhampton and St Phillip’s Cathedral in Birmingham.
